subsidies

Camp Misquah believes that every individual should have the opportunity to attend summer camp. The subsidies are designed to assist with the cost of camp fees but will not cover the entire cost of camp. The exact amount that you receive in subsidy will depend on the overall need for subsidies and will be indicated to you when you receive a subsidy confirmation. Thanks to the many supporters of Camp Misquah we are able to offer a large amount of subsidy funding in order to reduce the cost of attending camp for those who may find it to be a significant financial barrier.

Subsidy Amounts:

Subsidies are offered for up to a total of $550 dollars per camper.

Campers who require 1:1 support may be eligible for an additional $550 dollars in subsidy funding.

Subsidy Eligibility:

Eligibility for subsidies is determined by evaluation of information included in the subsidy application such as household income, other sources of funding. Letters of testimony may also be provided to support subsidy eligibility. Camp Misquah aims to give subsidy funding to all those who are in need.

Subsidy applications & allocation:

Applications for subsidies will open when registration opens. Decisions regarding subsidy allocations and amounts will be made before camp fees are due.

Bus Transportation Fee:

The additional $1100 1:1 support fee is not applied for an accompanying 1:1 support staff hired by the camper.

A 10% deposit is due by April 30th, 2024 to secure your spot. Full payments for camp are due on June 25th, 2024. If you are having any trouble making payments, please reach out to our Camp Director at campdirector@campmisquah.com.

It is important that our fees stay as low as possible so that no campers miss the opportunity to participate in this summer experience. Donations and fundraising activities are essential to maintaining reasonable fees and minimizing increases to fees. We run a number of fundraising ventures each year. Check out Ways to Give to keep updated on how you, your family and friends can help out.

Facilities

Location

Camp Misquah spans the shoreline of Lac Bitobi, and is lucky to have a large acreage with a long shoreline, large grassy fields, and lush woods. Campers experience the best of all worlds during their nightly walks, during activity time and especially during beach afternoon!

Accommodation

All campers and staff live in cabins that have electricity and comfortable bunk beds. Each room houses 4-10 campers, and the shared space makes learning how to live, share and co-operate with others part of the day-to-day experience. Counsellors share the adjacent space, ensuring constant supervision.

Bathing facilities

Even though getting dirty is part of the fun at camp, Misquah is fully equipped with modern and wheelchair-accessible showers and laundry facilities, all thanks to recent fundraising efforts. A path connects all cabins to the washroom buildings.

Recreation

Lots of room for fun and games - there is a sports pad for basketball, a soccer field for soccer and a cabin for crafts. For chill moments, there are swing sets throughout the site. The dining hall that seats 100 people comfortably for dinner also fits 100 people comfortably for dance parties!

Meals

Misquah’s dining hall seats 100 people comfortably with a modern kitchen. The Head Cook works alongside one other cook and two porters to prepare 3 meals a day with snacks. Campers’ and staff’s dietary restrictions are carefully accommodated. The highlight of the session is a formal banquet on the final night where a special meal is created, and campers receive awards.

Medical Supervision + COVID Protocols

At Camp Misquah, safety is our first priority. Health and nursing staff (may be licensed or unlicensed) are onsite and available 24 hours a day to administer expert medical treatment and daily medications. A nurse practitioner and family physician are on-call for consultation, while the Maniwaki hospital is 30 minutes away in cases of emergencies.

Campers will be expected to follow all Covid-19 related policies to the best of their ability. Camp Misquah staff will be available to offer reminders and make sure the Covid-19 guidelines are followed as best as possible. These policies include, but are not limited to:

  • All campers and staff are encouraged to be vaccinated (minimum 2 doses against COVID-19) before attending camp, however vaccination is no longer mandatory to attend camp. We are no longer collecting proof of vaccination.

  • Mask wearing will not be mandatory at camp this summer, unless an individual becomes symptomatic.

  • Social distancing will not be required while at camp this summer, unless an individual becomes symptomatic.

  • Rapid-Antigen testing will not be required at any point while at camp this summer. Camp will have rapid antigen tests available if a camper or family member is concerned about possible exposure.

  • Campers will not have to complete a COVID-19 screening assessment on the first day of camp this year.

  • Camp Misquah staff will monitor camper health daily and report any symptoms or changes in health to the nursing team at camp.

  • Campers will be encouraged to practice proper hand hygiene. Assistance and reminders will be offered.

  • We recommend that campers limit exposures and time in high-risk environments as much as possible for the days leading up to camp.

  • Any camper or staff who shows significant signs of illness (Covid-19 or other contagious illnesses such as flu) will be sent home to recover. They will be required to mask and distance (excluding receiving care) until they have left site.

These guidelines are based on current messaging from Public Health. Camp Misquah reserves the right to make changes to these guidelines before camp if we feel the COVID-19 threat has increased as camp approaches.

Transportation

Camp Bus Transportation - we will be offering this for a $100 fee per camper and will be a question during registration. The location for busses is to be announced.

Individual Transportation - if this option fits you best you will be contacted with a staggered drop off time leading up to camp with specific instructions on this process.
